Meet the Guy Who's Building Your Barstool!

Meet Alex, the head of VARIA's manufacturing team!

We've been working with Alex for the past few years as we've been prototyping our concept. He's been a great partner on this project so far, and we are so excited to keep him around for the next phase of our development!

This month we flew down to meet Alex at his shop to check on the first batch of barstools and get to know a little more about is life in Dallas.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

"A professional soccer player. When I was 13 I was in training in a league to play in a pro team in Colombia.

I came to the US and tried out for FC Dallas and was in the best 36 out of 1500 players."

How were you first introduced to metal working?
.

"When I started working in a manufacturing company about 20 years ago. I fell in love with metal, machines, welding and fabrication."

What was the first thing you made that you were really proud of?

.

"I’ve made literally thousands of products. When I was little, I remember making battery cars, wood planes, and even put together my very first bike.
I would say one of the coolest feelings was when I started making kites and hung them around my room so my friends can see them... They were for sale and I sold one to every one of my friends!"
.
What’s the most challenging part of entrepreneurship?

"Entrepreneurship is always challenging but if I had to pick... I think that creating while also keeping a business owner mentality as part of the entrepreneurial life might be the hardest. I find myself being a fabricator, designer, and inventor, and sometimes forget that I need to focus more on the business part of it. If I don’t focus on bringing new customers, my business will go down."

Favorite thing about your work space?

"One word... Freedom!"

What does success mean to you?

"Achieving ongoing goals nonstop, being an excellent role model especially for younger generations, and never letting them down."

Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?

"My imagination, drive, and determination to achieve set goals."

What is your go-to cure for getting out of creative rut?

"I’m constantly thinking of new ideas and new products. My mind never takes a break from creativity and I love it. But I do rest my mind by watching soccer matches and the UFC fights."

What’s your favorite thing to do after a long day of work?

"To come home after a productive day and hug and kiss my daughters. After that, I will have a Crown with a splash of coke and plan the next day."
